      About Rob

      My name is Rob Zulian, from Denver, Colorado. I’m a product trainer for a Domestic automotive manufacturer, dealing in full size vehicles in my day-to-day job. I’m into all kinds of RC vehicles, but I enjoy the 1:18 / 1:24 crawlers the most. I’ve got 1:10 rigs, too,  but the little guys are just fun to toss into a backpack and find a cool spot to explore.

      What first pulled you into modifying RC cars?

      I’m into trying to have my cake and eat it too. What I mean is I want performance but still want to maintain a sense of realism. That alone leads to its fair share of problem solving, which I enjoy greatly. I do truly appreciate what others have done with their individual creativity as well.   

      What’s a build you’re especially proud of and why?

      My K10 flatbed is a killer unit. I shortened the bed and frame 3/4” to improve the departure angle. It’s got loads of Batrazzi gear on it and works phenomenally.   Took a little to dial in but it can stick some pretty hairy lines at the local crawl spot.

      What’s the most frustrating or challenging moment you’ve had while building?

      My FCX24m Tacoma has been a challenge from the start. I’ve got pretty big hands and the smaller parts and screws are tough to deal with in the modification process. The effort was worth it. It’s pretty capable for the small size.

      What did it feel like the first time you drove an RC car you’d put a lot of work into?

      This goes way back to my very first hobby quality RC car as a kid. RTR cars were not a thing then and you bought a kit, separate radio and started putting it together. My Dad helped a lot with it and the feeling of driving the car I put together was amazing.  It felt like it went 100mph, even though it had a 540 Mabuchi motor, mechanical speed control and a 6 cell ni-cad battery. I was hooked for life.

      What are your top three tips for someone new to RC modding?

      Buy decent tools to work on the vehicles with.  Modify as things break. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t know.

      What keeps you motivated when a build doesn’t go as planned?

      Sometimes you need to walk away when things don’t go right. The solution will come to me when I’m not hyper focused on it. Then I can jump back in and carry on with less frustration.   

      Where do you usually find inspiration for your builds?

      Everywhere. I’ve got a pretty capable full size K5 Blazer I go drive off-road with, solo or with friends. The RC stuff keeps my mind sharp as it helps hone my skills for driving without the severe consequences of rolling my full-size rig. Plus, in the winter I can keep working on the RC rigs when it’s too cold to work outside on the full-size truck.

      Have you ever brought one of your builds to a meetup, trail event, or competition? What did it feel like?

      I’ve been to a few local events, no competition. It’s pretty cool to get out and see other folks’ builds. I can take inspiration from what I see as well as show off my own stuff, which is fun.

      Is there anything you’d like to say to the Batrazzi community?

      The Batrazzi brand is awesome. All the parts fit and work well and definitely improve the performance of my trucks.

      They are very open and willing to listen to suggestions for improvement from the people that use the products which you can’t say about some of the competition. As far as future products, I’d love to see some more bodies and added brass parts for the fcx24/18 axles like inner knuckles, c’s and rear inner portal housings.
